Outpatient Clinical Services is the general description for those clinical activities not otherwise contained within speciality programs. These include psychiatric evaluation and medication management, as well as individual, group and family therapy in our four outpatient offices. Therapy services are provided by clinicians from a variety of disciplines including psychology, social work and counseling.
Comprehend’s psychiatric team provides psychiatric evaluations and ongoing medication management services to treat conditions that might require medication. Our psychiatric team believes in a treatment process that includes traditional and integrative approaches to care. Our highly experienced team treats a wide range of conditions including depression, anxiety, ADHD, PTSD, bipolar disorder, psychotic disorder, OCD, grief, stress, parenting issues, and trauma. Utilizing a team-based approach, we address every issue that is affecting the well-being of our patients. Our integrated approach typically includes counseling and lifestyle changes in addition to medication. Our team may also utilize laboratory testing, drug screening, and genetic testing to discover the optimum medication regimen to treat your condition.
The Batterer’s Intervention Program is a 26-week, court-ordered psycho-educational group for individuals with domestic violence charges. For more than ten years, therapists at Comprehend, Inc. have been conducting weekly intensive group therapy sessions, for persons who have been designated as perpetrators of domestic violence. The immediate goal of these groups sessions is to eliminate the use of physical, verbal and mental abuse in intimate relationships.
Guardianship evaluations, which are also performed by court order, utilize a multidisciplinary approach (social work, psychology and medicine) to determine if vulnerable adults are in need of a conservator or guardian to protect their health and financial interests.
Psychological evaluations are also a part of outpatient clinical services; they may be conducted as an adjunct to diagnosis and treatment planning, as well as ordered by the court to determine competency to stand trial and/or criminal responsibility.
In our effort to provide easy access to trusted care, Comprehend provides telehealth counseling appointments. These appointments make it possible to receive care virtually from one of our trusted, highly skilled therapists.
A telehealth appointment allows you to speak to your therapist using live audio and video through a mobile phone, tablet or desktop computer that is equipped with a camera and microphone. To schedule a telehealth appointment, simply call our office, then log into Zoom to start the visit at the designated time. An email will be sent to you after setting your telehealth appointment with instructions on how to complete your virtual visit. Telehealth appointments are billed to insurance as a normal office visit. Telehealth appointments are designated for both new and current patients.
During this time of COVID-19, clients are encouraged to utilize our Telehealth Counseling services in order to limit face-to-face appointments and ensure proper social distancing for your safety and the safety of our staff.
Assertive Community Treatment (ACT) is an Evidence-Based Practice Model designed to provide treatment, rehabilitation and support services to individuals who are diagnosed with a severe mental illness and whose needs have not been well met by more traditional mental health services. Our ACT team provides services directly to an individual that are tailored to meet his or her specific needs. The ACT team is multi-disciplinary and includes members from the fields or psychiatry, nursing, psychology, social work, substance abuse and vocational rehabilitation. Based on their respective areas of expertise, the team members collaborate to deliver integrated services of the recipients’ choice, assist in making progress towards goals, and adjust services over time to meet recipients’ changing needs and goals. The staff-to-recipient ratio is small (one clinician for every ten recipients), and services are provided 24-hours a day, seven days a week, for as long as they are needed.
ACT teams deliver comprehensive and flexible treatment, support, and rehabilitation services to individuals in their natural living settings rather than in hospital or clinical settings. This means that interventions and skills teaching are carried out at the locations where individuals live, work, and socialize and where support is needed. ACT teams share responsibility for the people they serve and use assertive engagement to proactively engage individuals in treatment.
Comprehend works with the district, circuit, and family courts of the Buffalo Trace region to conduct court-ordered psychological evaluations and diversionary screenings/services to criminal justice-involved individuals. The evaluations include Competency to Stand Trail and Criminal Responsibility evaluations.
The coordination of a variety of available community services, monitoring the services, and advocating for individuals suffering from ongoing mental health issues. Support for families may also be provided.
Peer supporters are people who use their experience of recovery from mental health disorders to support others in recovery. Peer specialists promote recovery; enhance hope and social networking through role modeling and activation; and supplement existing treatment with education, empowerment, and aid in system navigation.
Comprehend has same day appointment availability in any of our outpatient offices for anyone in an emergency situation and discharging from a psychiatric hospital.
